Description:

Request a Grant Writer

Grant of up to $3,000 to a USA, Canada, or International graduate student or early-career researcher affiliated with a nonprofit, school, or government agency for innovative projects or programs that use psychology to address social issues. Funding may be used for research, intervention, or education. Preference will be given to early career psychologists (ten years or less postdoctoral), and pilot projects that, if successful, would be strong candidates for support from major federal and foundation funding agencies, and “demonstration projects” that promise to generalize broadly to similar settings in other geographical areas and/or to other settings.

APF supports original, innovative research and projects. Although APF favors unique, independent work, the Foundation does fund derivative projects that are part of larger studies.

Priority areas include the following:

  • Applying psychology to at-risk, vulnerable populations (e.g. serious mental illness, returning military, those who are incarcerated or economically disadvantaged)
  • Preventing violence
  • Understanding the connection between behavior and health (e.g. wellness, diabetes, obesity)
  • Understanding and eliminating stigma and prejudice (e.g. race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability and socioeconomic status)

Most APF programs allow for a wide range of direct costs.  Examples include (but are not limited to): participant payments, supplies, technology expenses (software, hardware, imaging, etc.), travel to conduct research, travel to disseminate findings, stipend/salary support, course buy out and supplemental training.
